From Nothing to a Business Owner
My name is Suzan Roshdy Mitry, I am 40 years old, married, and a mother of three children. I studied until I completed the preparatory stage (middle school).
I live in Ezbet El-Amir, Shaker Al-Mawan Street.
One day, I met a coordinator from the Future Lights Foundation while she was standing with one of my relatives. I stopped to listen to their conversation, and they were talking about the foundation, its activities, and the training programs it offers. I thought, why not give it a try? even though I didn’t know how to do anything at all.
After that, I filled out an application form, and they conducted a case study for me to enroll in a sewing training program. I told myself, let me check it out; I have nothing to lose.
I joined the training without any knowledge of sewing, taking measurements, or tailoring in general. The training took place in the foundation’s sewing workshop. To my surprise, they explained everything in detail and allowed us to practice. I learned how to take measurements, draw patterns, and work with my hands.
Twelve days passed, and every day, I learned something new and tried it myself. On the last day, I completed my first handmade product—it was the first time I had ever made something from start to finish! I was overjoyed. The difference between my first day and graduation day was huge.
I worked on improving myself even more. I bought a sewing machine, purchased fabric in bulk, designed patterns, and started making T-shirts from leftover fabric. I distributed and sold them to neighbors, acquaintances, relatives, and small local shops. As I gained more experience, the idea grew bigger.
Now, I own a small workshop with three machines for manufacturing home textiles and producing T-shirts through recycling. Through the foundation, I also received training in digital marketing and learned how to create a social media group. I launched my own group to showcase my work and market my products more effectively.
Today, I am well-known in my area for tailoring all kinds of clothes at excellent prices. This has made a huge difference in my sales, and my income has significantly improved. This change has had a remarkable impact on my family’s standard of living, my children’s education, and meeting the various demands of life.
The increase in my income had a significant impact on my family, improving our standard of living.
So, I transformed “from a trainee who knew nothing to a business owner.”
